9 months old

Today Sanaa turns 9 months old. We also had her 9 month check up this morning. It went really well. It was the first time she didn't get really upset when the doctor and nurse walked in the door. The only time she cried was when she got her finger pricked for a blood draw and when they gave her a shot. She only got one shot this time. Yea!

Sanaa is 17.75 lbs (25%), 28 inches long (75%), and has a head circumference of 17.5 inches (65%).

A much happier girl now that we're home.
A couple of weeks ago Uncle Caleb and Aunt Sarah drove down from Arkansas. It was a lot of fun to see them and hang out. These are some pictures that Aunt Sarah took on her camera. When Sarah is around, I don't need my camera because she takes some great shots.
Sanaa wondering why this crazy uncle of hers is laying on her turtle.
"Seriously! I don't want this hat on anymore!"
Contemplating something very important.

Finished project

I finished my first knitting project. I tried to knit when I was a kid, but gave up and never actually finished anything. This time time I decided to make a small blanket for Sanaa to carry around. I've been steadily working on it for the past couple weeks and last night decided I should finish it off. I didn't want it to get too big for Sanaa. I had fun making it and now I'm thinking about what to make next. Here are some pictures of Sanaa playing with her new blanket.

Moving forward

Today was the first time we saw Sanaa actually move forward. I was so excited. She did it just before we left for Little Gym and again while we were at Little Gym. When we got home I pulled out our camera to get a clip for you all to see. It's blurry and I don't know why. The clip was fine on our camera. Oh, well. At least you can see her progress. I guess I shouldn't procrastinate any longer on the baby proofing.

P.S. Brittany, you'll notice it was a book that enticed her to move forward!

Gift from a friend

In the mail today Sanaa received a quilt made by a good friend of mine. I've known Brittany since the 4th grade (20 years . . . I think). The quilt is awesome and I love all the colors on it! Even Sanaa enjoyed checking out all the bright colors. Thanks Brittany!

A day with three kids

After nearly 9 months I had forgotten how crazy a day can be when you are caring for more than one child. Today I watched Cole and Dylan (the two kids I was a nanny for) and I can't believe how fast the day went by. There was laughing, there was fighting, there was crying, and there was a brief period of quiet (emphasis on brief). Sanaa is exhausted. As I type this, at 6:30pm, Nate is upstairs putting her to bed. However, Sanaa did enjoy her time with Cole and Dylan. She took a liking to Cole and would smile and laugh whenever Cole would look at her.

Cole holding Sanaa.
All three kiddos. Aren't they cute?

If you had been a fly on our wall . . .

. . . this is what you would have heard and seen last evening.

Scene: It's about 7pm and almost time for Sanaa to go to bed. Rosa is sitting on the couch knitting. Sanaa is sitting in her bouncer drinking her evening bottle. Nate is sitting on the couch finding something on tv to watch.

Rosa: "Nate, what happened to Sanaa's bottle? Where's the formula?"

Nate: "Huh?"

Rosa: "The bottle is empty. She can't drink 7 oz that fast. What happen?"

Nate moves over to Sanaa and reaches for the bottle.

Nate: "Oh no. The lid is loose. She must have loosened it."

Rosa: "What? No. She doesn't know how to unscrew a lid."

Nate: "Well, I know the lid was screwed on when I gave it to her. She must have been playing with it."

Rosa: "That's impossible. She can't unscrew the lid. It wasn't tight enough."

Meanwhile Sanaa is sitting in her bouncer oblivious to the fact that she is soaked. Rosa picks Sanaa up and begins to peel off her pj's while Nate makes a new bottle.

St. Patrick's Day

I forgot today was St. Patrick's day until I turned on the tv and saw everyone wearing green. I had already dressed Sanaa for the day and picked her green outfit. I guess subconsciously I knew what day it was.

Take #1: Sanaa wants to leave, not get her picture taken.
Take #2: Finally, a smile . . . then she tried to leave again.
On a different note . . . Sanaa is quite tired today. I put her down for her morning nap and she slept for over an hour. That is not typical. After she'd been down for an hour and I hadn't heard her I began to worry, so I snuck in to check on her. She was okay.

We've had some very busy days, which is why Sanaa is so tired. Uncle Caleb and Aunt Sarah came to visit over the weekend. Uncle Caleb wore Sanaa out! She slept really good after spending time with him. Then yesterday Sanaa and I spent the day with the two kids I used to care for before she was born. We both were exhausted after that, but it was so much fun seeing Cole and Dylan again. We get to see them again on Thursday and it'll be a blast.

This and that

It's been a dreary, cold, and rainy past few days. The weather has forced us and the cats to spend quite a bit of time inside. I think all of us (cats included) are getting a little tired of being stuck indoors. Aria in particular has been quite whiny. I'm not sure what is up with her, but she's been meowing more and seems down right bored with being stuck in the house. She'll beg to go out but returns a short time later.

Aria can also be quite stubborn. She laid down on Sanaa's blanket and refused to leave. The result was her tail, paws, and ears got pulled. What did Aria do? Nothing, she rolled over in the hopes that Sanaa would leave her alone, but never left the blanket.
Exercising! Sanaa had a great time waving this thing (can't think of what it's called) around. It's part of Sanaa's little gym mat. Aria was so bored that she attacked the end of it while Sanaa tried to wave it around. I wasn't quick enough with the camera and missed that picture.
Multi-tasking. Drinking a bottle while attempting to take off a sock.
Friends. Silver really doesn't seem to mind Sanaa at all anymore. Just today he tried to climb onto her lap a couple of times. I think these two will end up being good friends.

Going . . . going . . . stuck

Last week was not the best week. From Thursday to yesterday (Sunday) Sanaa was a grump. Very little would make her happy. So far today she seems to be in a good mood. I'm fairly sure she was teething, but I don't see any new teeth trying to come through.

Sanaa is also trying her hardest to crawl. She's been pulling her knees up under her and every once in awhile gets her tummy off the floor. She continues to roll all over the place, so we'll find her under the kitchen table or half way to the front door. However, she does get frustrated by the fact that she can't go forward and get the toy she wants.

The past two days (or so) Sanaa has also decided that putting her down for a nap is funny. We'll lay her in her crib and she'll promptly roll onto her tummy, push up with her arms, look at us and giggle. So we'll just tell her "night, night" and leave her room. I sure hope she continues to enjoy being put down for a nap!

Sanaa's hair is also getting longer. I put a barrette in her hair last week and she looked so cute! Of course I'm extremely bias since I'm her mom, but I'm going to have so much fun doing her hair!

Sanaa wanted outside and wasn't happy that there was a clear, hard surface between her and what she wanted.

8 months old

Apparently February ended and it's March and now it's dawned on me that Sanaa is 8 months old. I think the fact that February only had 28 days threw me off. I was still waiting for the 30th to arrive but I think I might be waiting for a long time!

We haven't been up to much. The weather can't seem to decide if it's going to be cold or hot. We had a couple days last week that hit 80 degrees. Luckily my mom had sent Sanaa some short-sleeved shirts for Valentine's day. Who even thinks about shopping for short sleeved clothes in February? I know I don't, but I'm thankful my mom did.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Sanaa that I took last week (wearing one of the shirts my mom sent). Sanaa has two bottom teeth, which are easier to see when this picture is bigger.
Two really cute people. We were headed out for a walk. The sun hat didn't stay on Sanaa for very long, but at least I tried.
