31 weeks

I had my doctor's appointment yesterday.  All is going well.  Nothing was said about my weight. I didn't lose and I didn't gain.  But considering what my Friday was like, I think that's good.  My blood pressure was high when the nurse first checked it, but the doctor rechecked my blood pressure and it was fine.  My belly measured in at 32 centimeters.

Nate got to be at this doctor's appointment and had the chance to hear the baby's heart beat again.  Most of the time Nate has to work while I'm at my doctor's appointment, so it was nice that he was able to come this time.  I have two more two week appointments and then I begin to see the doctor every week.  My next appointment is on May 12th.

I've also included a recent picture of me. I am at 31 weeks. Only 9 weeks left. Yikes! I've hit the single digits. We are going to have a baby in this house before we know it!

Feeling better

I am feeling much better today.  My energy level is about half of what it normally is, but at least the worst is over.  I definitely had some type of 24 hour bug.  I am also quite sore, especially my abdominal muscles, but considering what I went through yesterday that's not a big surprise.  I did spend pretty much the entire day in bed.  Around 5pm last night I had a little energy, so I came down stairs and watched some tv with Nate.  But 2 1/2 hours later I was back up in bed.

This morning Nate took me out for breakfast, which was really sweet of him.  I haven't had much of an appetite today, but it was nice to get out.  After breakfast we went and bought a mattress for the crib and then stopped for some cat food.  That little outing wore me out.  We came home and I ended up napping for almost 2 hours!  Nate left for work while I was napping and I finally forced myself out of bed around 1:30pm.  I still needed to do the grocery shopping and stop by the bank.  So, needless to say, I got very little done today.  In fact, I should be doing homework right now, but don't want to.

Below are some pictures of the crib being put together.  Thought some of you might enjoy seeing them.

The first is a picture of Nate and his dad.  You can hardly see Nate's grandpa in the picture, but that is who the person to the right of Nate is.
Nate's mom got in on the action as well.
Nate and his grandpa tightening up the bolts on the crib.
And here I am . . . working hard like usual!
On Monday I have another doctor's appointment (10:00am), so you can expect an update either Monday or Tuesday. I have class Monday night, but hopefully I'll have a little time between work and class to type up a quick update.

Home sick (and not liking it)

For the past two weeks the kids at work have been sick off and on.  Last week it appeared that they both had strep.  Both saw the doctor and were put on antibiotics.  Last weekend the baby threw up.  When I arrived on Monday she was doing better and almost seemed like her normal self.  Cole was doing well too.  However, Tuesday night (after I left) Cole began throwing up.  We kept him home from school on Wednesday and it seemed as though he only had a 24 hour bug, which he most likely caught from his sister.  On Thursday we planned to send Cole back to school because he seemed to be doing fine and it was grandparents day at his school.  About 15 minutes before Cole was suppose to leave, he threw up all over the kitchen floor.  So we had to keep him home and call his grandparents.

The house keeper helped me clean up after Cole (luckily she was still there) and then I got him situated in front of the tv with some Sprite.  Thankfully that was only time he threw up while I was there.  I was still feeling fine and was hoping that I would get lucky and not catch whatever was going around.  I was wrong.  I went to bed early last night because my stomach was cramping a little.  I had a hard time sleeping and around 3:30am I began to throw up.  I called my boss early this morning (around 6am) to let her know.  By the time I called her I had already thrown up 3 times.  It is now a little after 10am and I've thrown up 5 times now.  My stomach is getting  really sore from this.  I've left a message for my doctor, but I doubt there is anything she can do.  I hate feeling this way.  I would much rather deal with a sore throat.

Nate called in sick as well today.  He's fine, but he wanted to be close by to help me out.  Right now he is making a store run to get some sprite and jello. Those are the only things that sound good to me right now.  So, if you read this today, just keep me in your thoughts.  I'm really hoping that this is just some 24 hour bug and I'll start feeling like my old self again soon.  I am grateful that Nate is here.  That does make me feel a little better.

(P.S. I've noticed that the time stamp at the bottom is always a few hours off of, but I haven't figured out how to change that. So, just so you know it almost 10:20am and I'm getting ready to post this)

Baby shower pictures

Here are some pictures.  I told you I just needed my genius husband's help. What would I do without him? Of course, he has also discovered that I need to take my computer in for service. Apparently, it's not suppose to make the funny noise it did when I inserted the CD with the pictures. But, in my defense, I hardly ever use the CD player on my computer, so I didn't know.

Anyway, this first picture is Nate's mom, me, and Nate's grandma. His grandparents were visiting from California. It was great that the baby shower coincide with their time here so that his grandma could attend.

This is a picture of me with the hostesses. They did a great job!

Here I am opening a gift. The shower was set up as an open house and as people arrived they displayed their gifts on the tables. That way I had more time to chit chat with everyone. Plus, it made it more flexible for those who couldn't stay the whole time.  It worked out really well and I was glad for the chance to talk with the various people that came. Some of the people who came I didn't know all that well because they attend the first service.  Our church has two morning services to accommodate everyone.  Nate and I attend the second service, while Nate's parents attend the first service. So, I didn't know the ladies from the first service who knew Nate's mom.
That's all for now. Until later . . .

Baby Shower

Well, I wanted to share a couple of pictures from the baby shower with you but I am having a really hard time getting them uploaded. So, I'll need to wait until my genius husband comes home from work and can help me.

The shower was a lot of fun.  Our baby got a lot of great stuff, clothes, blankets, toys, diapers, etc.  Unfortunately, my mom was not able to make it here for the shower.  She never made it out of Oregon because her flights kept being cancelled.  So, now the plan is for her to come down at the end of May.  I have another baby shower June 1st that she'll hopefully make it for.

Last weekend we also got a crib.  Nate's parents and his grandparents (who were here visiting from California) came over one evening and helped put the crib together.  We still need to get a mattress, but at least we have the crib up.  However, as I'm thinking about it, I'll need to put away all of the baby stuff from the shower so that we can get to the crib, in order to put a mattress in it.   But maybe I'll just wait for my mom to come.  She'll need something to do, right?  Although, she wouldn't have anywhere to sleep, since the bed in that room is covered as well.

I am now at 30 weeks.  The last email I got compared the weight of the baby to a head of cabbage (about 3 pounds).  I didn't know a head of cabbage was that heavy.  The email also talked about her developing eyesight. I knew that newborn babies had bad eyesight when they were first born, but I didn't know how bad.  A newborn's eyesight is roughly 20/400.  They are able to see objects a few inches from their face, but everything else is blurry and fuzzy. Interesting.

Once Nate gets home from work, we'll see if we can get some pictures posted from the shower.

Doctor update

I had another doctor's appointment today.  Now that I see the doctor every two weeks you can expect more updates on the baby.  Everything continues to look good.  The baby's heart beat was going strong and my blood pressure was good. My belly grew another 2 centimeters since the last appointment (puts me at 30 centimeters for those who are tracking my growing belly).  I felt a little bigger and now I know I am a little bigger.

However, I did lose a pound.  Oops.  The doctor is not concerned.  My last appointment was in the late afternoon and this appointment was in the morning.  So, the doctor said the time of day could play a role in my weight.  In the afternoon, I'm likely to have more water retention.  She did ask how my appetite has been and I've been quite hungry, so that's why the doctor is not worried about me losing a pound.  Besides I'm sure I'll gain it back, plus more.

Next appointment is on April 28th.

So, last night we had a strong storm come through.  We woke up around 3:30am to a down pour, lightening, strong winds, and no power.  We looked out our window and couldn't see a thing because the wind was blowing the rain like crazy.  Our power did not come back on until about 11am.  That made it a little hard for Nate to get ready for his class this morning.  Luckily, I did not have to go to work today, so I wasn't worried about getting ready with no power.  Once the sun came up, we found out that a small section of our fence in the backyard had fallen over.  Just great.  So now we'll need to get our fence replaced.  We knew we would have to do it eventually, but I really didn't want to mess with it today.  Oh, well.   At least we are safe and there was no damage to our house.  Things could have been much worse.

Big changes

Here is the picture I said I would post last week.  I'm a little behind on that.  Nate took this picture of me on Saturday.  I am in week 28 and have begun the third trimester.  Time is really moving quickly.  Several people have asked how the baby's room is coming along.  Well . . . I haven't done anything except clean out the closet.  I know.  I know.  I really need to get a move on and I will.  Sometime.  I am such a big procrastinator, but after this weekend I will definitely get moving.  This Saturday I have a baby shower. Lots of fun.  So, I'm thinking that once baby stuff starts to arrive, I'll get motivated to actually do something about the room.

We do have a major change coming up (besides having a baby) that some of you already know about.  About two weeks ago I talked with my boss about time off.  My boss had been thinking about things for awhile and decided that the best solution would be for me to not return.  She was worried about the logistics of taking care of three children and managing all their different schedules.  I was not prepared to hear this, although I had been stressing out about how I would manage juggling everything.  I knew three car seats would not fit into my car.  I was also stressing about the commute to work and back with a baby.  The good thing is that grandma will be taking over my position, so I know the kids will be in good hands.

I've been with this family for 5 1/2 years.  I knew the time would come when I would need to leave, but I wasn't prepared for it to be so soon.  However, as Nate and I have talked through things, we can only see positive results from this.  We took a look at our finances and we think it may be possible for us to live off of Nate's income.  Since we found out that I won't be returning to work we have already begun to take my paycheck and put the whole thing into savings.  This will allow us to see how tight our finances really do get and also give us a cushion for after our daughter is born.

As I've reflected on this, I've come up with two main reasons as to why God allowed this to happen. First, I've become very comfortable in my surroundings and probably too self-sufficient.  I like to think I'm in control, when I'm really not and this is God's way of waking me up.  Second, He knew I would not be very effective as a mother or wife while I attempted to juggle work, school, and a new baby.  So, He removed one of those things for me and left the two things He felt were most important.

My plan for the next few months is to work until either the baby arrives or the doctor tells me I can't.  I've set my last day at work for June 27th, which is two days before my due date.  If all goes according to my plans (which is never does), I'd like to work up to that point.  But I'm not in control, as I've learned.  I know that on my last day I'll be an absolute mess, but I hope to meet up with the kids have "play dates" every once and while.  I do think I should probably skip the mascara that day or buy some water proof mascara!

Baby update

Yesterday I had another doctor's appointment. It went well. At the end of this week I will be in my third trimester. It's going by quickly! Here is the run down from the visit. I gained another 6 pounds, for a total of 15 pounds. The doctor said that's good and I'm making up for lost time. My belly measures in at 28 centimeters. It grew 4 centimeters since the last visit. I'm to expect my belly to grow about 1 centimeter a week from now on. The doctor also listened to the heartbeat and that was going strong. Once again, while she was listening to the heartbeat, our baby decided that would be a great time to kick and squirm around. The doctor was able to feel that as well as hear that. She asked if the baby moved a lot and I said yes. She actually moves quite often. The doctor was pleased with that and said lots of strong movement is a good sign of a healthy and strong baby.

I now begin to see the doctor every two weeks. So, my next appointment will be Thursday, April 10th at 10:30am. I know that is less than 2 weeks, but we tried scheduling for the week after and it wasn't working out so well. My doctor is out of the office a couple of the days and then some of the other days she is only there in the morning. I have next Thursday and Friday off since my mom is flying into town, so that was a good time to make the appointment. Now I won't have to worry about working things out with my boss so that I can leave in the middle of the day.

Since I'm almost at the third trimester, I'll have Nate take another picture of my growing belly sometime this week and post it for you all!
